Cat Ba, also known as Jade Island, is the largest one of the total 1,969 islands in Ha Long Bay. Other small islands are Cat Ong, Cat Duoi, Quai Xanh, Tai Keo, etc.

On the sea, there appear many beautiful limestone mountains similar to that of Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long. Some small islands also have beautiful beaches.

Cat Ba has rain tropical forests on limestone islands, mangrove forests, coral reefs, seaweed mats – sea grass, cave system, bays, which form a full convergence of biological diversification conserve values that meet the requirements for the world’s biosphere reserve as stipulated by UNESCO.
With the “privileges” granted by Mother Nature, Cat Ba has become an attractive destination to many tourists domestic and foreign. Acknowledging fully and appreciating these strengths, Cat Hai District People’s Committee has attempted to develop Cat Ba tourism associated with the protection of the ecological environment and natural landscapes. Cat Ba diving tour is also a part of this purpose as besides introducing the beauty of Cat Ba Beach to the tourists, it also propagandizes and educates them to keep a clean environment as well as protect marine animals and rare corals.
According to Mr. Trinh Phuc Man, Director of Diep Tran Travel Agent – in progress of applying an investment permit for diving tourism in Cat Ba, initial surveys show that Cat Ba has more than 10 locations that can hold snorkeling activities such as Monkey, Ba Trai Dao, Tai Keo, Van Boi, Long Chau, etc. The average water level at the diving sites is 4-5m deep with a beautiful variety of coral layers and sea creatures. To prepare for diving tours, Diep Tan has invested in large scale with entire foreign imported diving equipments and a team of professional instructors trained and certified in Australia. Moreover, the tasks of rescue and salvage are planned clearly and thoroughly.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Minh, Vice Chairman of Cat Hai District People’s Committee, said the authorities’ point was supporting the enterprise to opening a new form of tourism to attract visitors and promote Cat Ba tourism; however, the company needed to ensure all legal rules about the exploitation of this tourism type such as legitimate license, infrastructure, technical equipment, human, etc.
